GCCN Climate Conversations

Thursday, April 15th | 6pm – 7.30pm | Zoom

Galway City Community Network was selected as

one of the pilot areas for the Climate Conversation initiative

The PPN Climate Conversations are part of a series of conversations happening across the country, connected to the government’s National Dialogue on Climate Action. The conversations aim to inform the development of the 2021 Climate Action Plan and the priorities for the Climate Action Fund.

The Department of Environment, Climate and Communications (DECC) are keen to involve a diversity of voices from a range of community organisations, as well as those directly involved in environmental issues.

GCCN extended an invitation to all interested GCCN members to attend and ensure this diversity.

The PPN Conversations discussed and captured a snapshot of: our hopes and concerns for local climate action, our recommendations for the design of the Climate Action Fund and for the Climate Action Plan.

A summary of the Galway City conversation capturing the key points raised was produced by the facilitator. This will be included in a combined report containing feedback from the series of conversations happening with other PPNs, Comhairle na nÓg and online. This report will be used by the Department of Environment, Climate and Communications to inform their drafting of the Climate Action Plan 2021 and Climate Action Fund.

Further info: National Climate Conversation – Climate Action Plan 2021

In 2019, the government outlined an ambitious Climate Action Plan to achieve a climate neutral economy and resilient society by 2050 and are now updating that plan for 2021.

Climate change will affect all our lives, so the aim is to develop this plan with input from the widest number of people, communities and sectors. This is happening through the National Dialogue on Climate Action (NDCA) – a forum of collaboration between citizens, the government and relevant agencies covering a range of climate-related issues.

This Climate Conversation consultation is open until 5.30pm on 18 May 2021.
