Galway Transportation Unit, Galway City Council seeks to increase uptake of cycling in Galway City across all age groups. As part of Galway Bike Festival 2013, organisations are invited to host a cycling related event on a not for profit basis in Galway City during Galway Bike Festival, which takes place over the period Saturday June 15 to Sunday June 23, 2013. Funding up to a maximum of €500 will be awarded to organisations in support of such an event/initiative.

Examples of Events
Events welcomed include the following:
- Fun Children’s Cycle Races / Fancy Dress Bike Cycle / Slow Bicycle Races / Cycling Treasure Hunt etc. in your local park possibly involving bike maintenance session(s) and ending with a picnic
- Themed Local Area Cycle, where everyone young and old living in your area is invited to participate in a leisurely group cycle, perhaps ending with refreshments and entertainment in the local park
- Bike Hurley or Camogie
- Cycle Challenge, where as many people as possible are invited to cycle to school, work, the shops etc. during Galway Bike Festival with prizes awarded based on the number of cycling trips and effort made
- Bike Fashion Show
- A combination of some/all of the above or better ideas that your organisation may have in support of Galway Bike Festival 2013.
Under this initiative funding up to a maximum of €500 per organisation will be awarded based on the application received. Eligible expenses include for example: refreshments, bike maintenance workshops, bike hire, cycle training workshops, event prizes, fliers etc.
Funding will be awarded on the basis of the application received by reference to the following criteria: (i) cycling and related activities proposed, (ii) level of expected participation and (iii) methods of promoting the event.
