Claiming Our Future is planning to develop a ‘Declaration for a New Republic’. We are inviting organisations, campaigns, communities and individuals to a meeting to explore what this might look like and how best to develop and promote such a document.
Ireland is a deeply unequal society. Poverty and deprivation increase every year. The economy serves neither society nor the environment. Politics has reflected no appetite for transformative change and remains unresponsive to those who experience poverty and inequality. Now more than ever, we need alternatives.
Claiming Our Future is a national broad based non-party political network made up of individuals and organisations from across civil society. We seek to make real the values of equality, environmental sustainability, participation, accountability and solidarity.
It is time to develop a vision for an alternative Ireland based on these values and to take action to build and demonstrate support for this alternative.
We hope that the ‘Declaration for a New Republic’ can re-energise and reinvigorate our demands for change and our search for new forms of economy, politics and society. We are proposing a nationwide process to identify priorities for the future. These priorities would be visionary and long-term, as well as including practical steps to be implemented in the short term.
In this public meeting we will discuss, develop and shape the idea of developing a ‘Declaration for a New Republic’:
- What would be the purpose of a ‘Declaration for a New Republic? What would it include? How would it help or search for alternatives?
- How would we mobilise support for a ‘Declaration for a New Republic’? How would we organise participative, engaging and grass roots level discussions around the country to create its content?
